Dear Dr.N – I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year….. any suggestions?
Dear planning- A year can seem like such a long time when you are trying. We do not tend to be concerned as medical providers unless it has been over a year but if you are worried you need to see your provider and start looking for ways to optimize your trying and discovering barriers to a baby. There are some fundamental issues to be addressed initially like how regular are your menses, does your partner have a normal sperm count and are your tubes open? I also review timing of intercourse carefully since an egg is only viable for 24 hours! There are also some simple blood tests to do to assess your health that should be done. Sounds like you should make an appt for some help. I would be glad to help you with this exciting time in your life. Best Wishes for 2012. DrN
